About SoniXFM

SoniXFM™ is a media content aggregation and popularization platform developed in 2009 in conjunction with Sony Interactive for their now defunct ‘Milk’ media project. Other music services began to whitelabel the platform in 2010 including Amazon, Apple and Microsoft. As of this writing, the SoniXFM platform has been integrated by over 200 music services and device manufacturers reaching an estimated 140 million consumers daily. Specific SoniXFM applications for Android, IOS and other devices are currently under development.

Content Sources

SoniXFM derives data from SoniXCast’s extensive broadcast network (SBN) and other public sources like Xiph.org (icecast), ShoutCast.com (shoutcast), iHeartRadio.com (terrestrial) and the FCC database (terrestrial). In total over 40 providers feed the SoniXFM aggregation service with an estimated 2 million unique media content providers.

There are two main content provider classifications:

Content Weighting

Ratings are provided by a myriad of sources including Nielson for terrestrial ratings in the US and Canada. Statistics collection is maintained internally in order to eliminate listener count ‘fudging’ often seen in amatuer webcasting.

Each media content provider is qualified by two main criteria:

Content Provider Listings

Our partners demand the highest possible statistical accuracy, therefore there is no way to simply ‘join’ SoniXFM. The fastest way to get listed is to order a SoniXCast professional (not CentovaCast at this time) account which is listed automatically upon provisioning. If you are an independant web radio or SoniXCast CentovaCast user, getting listed at Xiph.org or Shoutcast.com generally shows up on SoniXFM within 24 hours. Terrestrial radio stations are added automatically upon registration with country specific government regulating agencies (i.e. FCC in the US).

Listing Maintenance

SoniXFM uses internal statistics collection to ensure the highest possible statistical accuracy and by design, there is no way to manually change any information collected. Statistics collection occurs multiple times per hour and only by ensuring that the metadata of your streaming server is correct will ensure a correct listing at SoniXFM.
